Castle Menzies
Weem, Aberfeldy, PH15 2JD
Castle Menzies is a splendid example of a 16th-century Z-plan tower house, situated just west of Aberfeldy. Once the seat of the Chiefs of Clan Menzies, the castle fell into ruin before being rescued and painstakingly restored by the Clan Menzies Society from 1971 onwards. Today it is open to visitors, offering a fascinating insight into Highland clan history and castle life.
Castle Menzies is a wonderful example of Scottish clan heritage brought back to life. The restored rooms tell the story of the Menzies clan across the centuries, and the building itself — with its thick walls, spiral staircases, and turrets — is a joy to explore. The volunteer guides are passionate and knowledgeable, bringing real colour to the history. Allow about an hour for a visit.
