Scottish Crannog Centre
Kenmore, Loch Tay, PH15 2HY
The Scottish Crannog Centre is an extraordinary open-air museum that brings Iron Age life vividly to life. The centrepiece is a faithful reconstruction of a crannog — a loch dwelling built on stilts over Loch Tay. Costumed guides demonstrate ancient crafts, fire-making, and daily life as it was 2,500 years ago.
The Crannog Centre is one of those attractions that exceeds every expectation. The guided tours are engaging and informative, the hands-on demonstrations (fire-making, butter-churning, weaving) are genuinely interactive, and the crannog itself — standing over the loch just as its Iron Age original would have — is atmospheric and thought-provoking.
Children absolutely love it (especially the fire-making), and adults find it equally fascinating. Allow at least 1.5 hours for a full visit.
