Taymouth Castle
Kenmore, Aberfeldy, PH15 2NT
Taymouth Castle is one of Scotland's most spectacular Gothic Revival castles, built in the early 19th century for the Campbells of Breadalbane on the site of an earlier Balloch Castle. Set in magnificent parkland at the east end of Loch Tay near Kenmore, the castle is currently undergoing a major redevelopment as a luxury hotel and golf resort. The grounds are occasionally accessible to visitors.
Taymouth Castle is one of the most impressive buildings in Highland Perthshire, its grand turrets and battlements rising above the wooded parkland near Kenmore. Queen Victoria visited in 1842 and described it as magnificent. While the castle interior is currently closed during its transformation into a luxury hotel, the surrounding grounds and parkland offer lovely walks with views across to Loch Tay and the surrounding hills.
