A tranquil lochside retreat on Loch Tay's southern shore
Ardeonaig sits on the quiet south shore of Loch Tay, roughly halfway between Killin and Kenmore. “Village” is perhaps too grand a word — it’s really a scattering of houses and a hotel beside the loch, connected by a beautiful but narrow single-track road.
What Ardeonaig lacks in facilities, it makes up for in atmosphere. This is Loch Tay at its most peaceful — the south shore road sees a fraction of the traffic of the main A827 on the north shore, and the views across the loch to Ben Lawers and the northern mountains are magnificent.
The hotel is the focus of the settlement — a characterful lochside property with beautiful gardens running down to the water. It’s a popular destination for romantic breaks and peaceful retreats.
The narrow road along the south shore between Killin and Kenmore is one of the finest drives in Perthshire. Take it slowly, stop at viewpoints, and enjoy the complete contrast with the busier north shore route.
Ardeonaig is a good starting point for walks along the south shore. The bay is also a popular wild swimming spot, with relatively easy access to the loch.
